Simplicity Matters

keeping it simple

Many many moons ago my first video game system was an old Atari, restricted to games like Pong.  Then eventually other systems came out and Nintendo brought out Duck Hunt, Super Mario and Zelda.  Fairly straightforward, side scrollers for the most part and the graphics were cartoonish.  Go left or right, jump up and down, play for awhile and have fun.

But over time the games got more complicated.  WAY more complicated.  3-D movements and the number of button sequences grew ever more complicated.  Press an 8 button sequence to get a certain move.  And of course the expense climbed as the systems "improved".

And what else changed, at least for me, was it stopped being fun.  Just too complicated, too real, and required too much thinking and not enough just having fun.  I quit purchasing systems long ago and what I have left has been in the basement for years.

This Christmas I received some gift cards so I walked into the store pretty much a clean slate.  Maybe a new shirt or two?  Nothing suited my preference so I wandered into the electronics section.  Two kids were playing Nintendo Switch.  $299?  Pfffft.  I've got $50 in gift cards and no intent to go much over that.  And then I spot something.  A NES Classic Edition.  A much smaller version of one of my old game systems and it's preloaded with 30 games.  Donkey Kong, Galaga (oh the number of quarters I spent on that one in college!), the first three Super Mario Brothers games, and an assortment of other games I haven't seen in years.  A controller with just the cross and an A & B button.  I'm back to simplicity.  I'm pretty rusty, but I'm back to having FUN!

Now what does this have to do with real estate?  I think the same thing that enables me to have fun when playing video games (simplicity) is one of the keys to a smooth experience for our real estate clients.  They're not looking for a complicated, gut wrenching home buying journey.

The simpler I can make the process, the easier it is.

Keep the patio home hunting process relatively simple.

You want a Greater Cincinnati patio home?

Tell me what you want, what you can comfortably afford and where you want to be and I can simplify the work because I know patio homes so well.

We can quickly narrow down to the patio home communities that fit your needs.

From that point, we can simplify the process even further.  What patio homes are for sale.  Which ones match?  Which ones don't?

If nothing matches today, how long should we expect to need to wait for the next good opportunity?

And once we find a match, what's the process?

These are all questions I can answer.  I can take out the complications, get down to the essence and produce an enjoyable real estate experience.

It's just a matter of keeping it simple!

It is almost always best to keep things simple.

Making it complicated may not impress everyone.

Keeping things simple to make the process smoother is probably welcomed by most buyers and sellers!

Bill- i’ve Never been a game player but we did get Larry’s daughter and her family the Nintendo Switch. As you said simplicity especially when buying a house is key. Hiring the right agent can help with that.

Wonderful analogy, Bill. Yes, it is our job to make the process super smooth for our clients and take the 'stress' out of the transaction for them. Lord knows, they have enough stress, just with the moving process!

Good morning Bill. I like simplicity too, in everything and believe most folks do as well.
