Want Low Maintenance Living In Cincinnati?

 

Cincinnati patio homesThere's a whole list of reasons you may be ready for a change from a "regular" house to some sort of low maintenance living.  Notice I didn't say maintenance free living in Cincinnati, because for the most part you're always going to have SOME level of responsibility.  At a minimum you're going to need to change the occasional lightbulb!

Of course you could become a tenant, but that comes with restrictions you may not want in your life.

So let's assume you DO want to own some type of low maintenance home in Greater Cincinnati.  What are your options?

There are a variety of low maintenance housing types:

The closest to a regular home would be a patio home.  What's a patio home you ask?  Well since the definition may vary around the country, what we mean locally is basically a detached home that comes with contracted lawn care as part of the HOA fee.  You own the home and taking care of it, but you don't have to mow the lawn or shovel snow.  ALMOST always a patio home is a ranch home, so you have one level living.  A patio home may or may not have a basement.  And they may not be called patio homes.  Alternate terms:  lifestyle ranch, ranch condo, courtyard home, villa home, garden home, etc.

Next up is the condo category.  You're attached to other condos and of course ownership rules are a bit different.  And since it's a condo, the type of financing will impact which communities you can purchase in.  There are a limited number of condo associations approved for FHA or VA loans. 

Condos can come in a variety of configurations:

Duplex style.

Multiple side by side (2, 3, 4, etc.).  May or may not have basements.

Apartment style (so neighbors up or down potentially).

Townhome style.  Most likely 3 level living, but sometimes just 2 since builders' use of the term may vary.

Lastly, a bit of a hybrid between a patio home and a condo is the landominium.  You own the home from the studs in, and you own the lot.  The HOA is responsible for the exterior and mowing/snow removal.  They can be attached or detached, and may be ranch style or two story.
